November Care Center Activities
November Activities at the Care Center
There will be an abundance of activities at the North Shore Care Center during November. As the days get shorter there is more time indoors to enjoy crafts, baking, and music.
The men will mark Minnesota's deer hunting opener by preparing venison stew for National Men Make Dinner Day while sharing hunting stories and old recipes.
On Veterans' Day there will be a church service and cake social with the Lutsen Lutheran Church. The following day is a history and reminisce session to honor a number of veterans at the Care Center – Larry Ableman, Earl Anderson, Phyllis Anderson, Ophelia Bassett, Jack Halverson, and Don Ingram. Homemade cheesecakes will also be served.
November outings will take us to a play at the ACA, a Thanksgiving luncheon at the Senior Center, and a holiday shopping trip downtown.
The resident birthday party will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 14 for Dorothe Vaughn, Irma Toftey, Marian Kimball, and Mary Liebsch. Cake and ice cream will be served at 3 p.m. along with piano music by Doug Sanders.
The Lioness Club hosts their monthly social with delicious desserts on Saturday, November 17 at 3 p.m. Irene Thompson will be back to perform her old time favorites on the piano.
The November music lineup will feature the jazz sounds of The Sivertones on Thursday, November 15 at 6:00 p.m. Additional live music will be performed by Myron Bursheim on Sunday nights, Al Fuller on Tuesdays evenings, and Susan Scherer on Wednesdays during dinner.
There will be a special Turkey Bingo game for a 10-pound turkey on Thursday, November 15. As usual, Walt Mianowski will be on hand to make fun. The lucky turkey winner will be announced later this month in the Cook County News Herald.
Thanksgiving brings families and friends to the Care Center for the traditional turkey dinner served on Thanksgiving Day – as well as a square dance on the weekend with The Arrowtippers dance group. This is our 5th annual square dance and community members are welcome to join us on Saturday, November 24 at 6:30 p.m. Get ready to do the Virginia Reel – wheelchairs included!
During this season of giving thanks, the residents and staff at the North Shore Care Center wish to express their gratitude to over 70 community volunteers who give their valuable time throughout the year. Thank you for all that you do!
